2020.02.17 05:07 BackpackingVisayas 26 [M4F] Visayas Backpacking

Hi! I'm planning on doing a Visayas trip this June. Something backpacking and budget-friendly. Tip-off point is Ilo-ilo, then Guimaras, Bacolod, Dumaguete, up to Siquijor (maybe Oslob if I'm feeling like it).
I don't know anything from the said places, but the point is to find out and experience what they have to offer. I was originally planning on doing this alone, but i'm looking for a female joiner for a change. Mainly because travelling alone is not economical, and also for the companionship. A local is preferred, but someone who wants the wander as well is also welcome to join!
Target date is around June 15/16 onwards, trip will last for 5-7 days. KKB. 🙂
Let me know if you're interested! Esp yung mga galing MNL, while seat sale lasts! Cheers!

2019.10.10 15:27 Hypereclipse1 First time PC build for 2,000$ in the Philippines

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Extra info or particulars:
EDIT: I made a PCPartpickerlist https://pcpartpicker.com/list/M9m4Dx

2018.09.15 03:02 drtyrckstr 33 [M4F] Date to a Wedding in Bacolod

Hi,
I’m wondering if there’s anyone here from Bacolod who’d like to be my date for a wedding i’m attending this weekend.
My former boss and good friend is getting married in Bacolod on the 22nd and my date backed out, unfortunately. I have no qualms flying solo but who knows, right? So just in case you’re up for a fun random night dressing up, lying to people about how we met, and getting piss drunk for free, do let me know.
Anyway. I’m 33, chinito, single, fairly attractive (some girls have said 😅), well-mannered and gentlemanly.
Hit me up with your tele or viber and we can exchange photos and talk there.
Thanks.

2018.03.31 18:13 Arcus_Chambers [EVENT] Duterte's Build Build Build Project Infrastructure Program

Philippine International News Department
Department of Public Works and Highways
Department of Transportation
Bases Conversion and Development Authority
Under Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, the Southeast Asian country is experiencing an infrastructure boom unseen since the time of strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
Over the next decade, the government is set to embark on an ambitious $180 billion infrastructure spending , set to transform the Philippines’ economy.
Philippine Department of Finance (DOF) chief economist Karl Chua said in an interview that the government is looking at 75 flagship projects, which include six airports, nine railways, three bus rapid transits, 32 roads and bridges, and four seaports that will help bring down the costs of production, improve rural incomes, encourage countryside investments, make the movement of goods and people more efficient, and create more jobs.
The government is also aiming to construct four energy facilities that will ensure stable power supply at lower prices; ten water resource projects as well as irrigation systems that will raise agricultural output; five flood control facilities that will help protect vulnerable communities as well as boost their resilience against the impact of climate change; and three redevelopment programs that will deliver sustainable solutions to best meet the needs of urban population.
If successful, Duterte could once and for all extinguish the Southeast Asian country’s reputation as the “sick man of Asia”–and usher in an unprecedented era of inclusive economic development. To be fair, recent years have seen consistently high economic growth in the country. Since 2011, the Philippines has broken out of its historically mediocre growth pattern to feature among fastest growing nations in the region.
The World Bank expects the Philippine Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to grow by 6.7% in 2018 and 2019, the highest in Southeast Asia. The Duterte administration, however, is hoping to nudge growth to the 7-8% territory.
But the country’s growth has been shallow and far from comprehensive, leaving high levels of unemployment, poverty and hunger relatively untouched. And this is where the Dutertenomics’ “build, build, build” agenda comes into the picture, hoping to (literally) bridge the gap in economic policies of past administrations. Infrastructure is clearly the country’s Achilles heel. On one hand, infrastructure has been a major source of concern for foreign investors, who have been discouraged by the country’s weak infrastructure and heavy utility costs. Those investments are crucial to create well-paying jobs for the millions of poor and unemployed Filipinos. According to an authoritative study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), traffic congestion in Manila, caused by poor infrastructure, carried a daily price tag of P2.4 billion ($45 million) in 2012--a figure that is expected to almost triple by 2030.
According to the 2017 World Economic Forum’s competitiveness report, the Philippines ranked 97th in the world in terms of infrastructure. In a separate report by the United Nations, the Philippines ranked 5th in Southeast Asia in terms of access to physical infrastructure.
Duterte’s two immediate predecessors, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III, oversaw a decade of sustained macroeconomic reform, anchored by fiscal tightening, moderate inflation, expanding trade surplus and steady economic growth.
Yet, the cost of their disciplinary economic policies was lack of sufficient investment in basic infrastructure. Under the Aquino administration, in particular, under-spending was a major concern.
Both the Arroyo and Aquino administrations were also overly dependent on private-public-partnership (PPP) schemes with local conglomerates, which lacked proper competencies.
Duterte, however, can now build on his predecessors’ legacy by diverting the Philippines’ expanding fiscal pie to address infrastructure woes. Leveraging his skyrocketing approval ratings (80%), combined with a new foreign policy direction as well as a super-majority coalition in the legislature, his administration is marshaling necessary funds to finance and sustain its ambitious economic plan. Unlike his predecessors, he is ditching the PPP modality in favor of larger reliance on government revenues as well as Official Development Assistance (ODA), particularly from Japan and China, as his main sources of infrastructure funding.
To support the new modality, Duterte has normalized relations with China, which has offered $7.3 billion in infrastructure investments, and Japan, which has been a leading investor in the Philippines for decades.
Duterte also passed a new tax reform package, which is expected to raise sufficient revenues to fund infrastructure spending. According to Mr. Chua, up to 70% of newly-raised revenues (estimated to raise P786 billion over the next 5 years) are earmarked for supporting the “build, build, build” campaign. Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said that the government hopes the tax reform will “not only solve our present infrastructure gaps, but also support the country’s future growth.”
Nonetheless, Duterte’s ambitious infrastructure vision could be hobbled by chronic challenges. Experts have expressed doubts over absorption capacity of government agencies to undertake projects competently and on time; risk of large-scale corruption and bidding anomalies affecting foreign, especially Chinese-led, projects; lack of construction workers and skilled labor; as well as growing pressure on Philippine peso and international reserves due to need for importing intermediate goods and technology for infrastructure boom.
Supporters, however, claim that even if the government fails to achieve half of its ambitious goals, Duterte could still go down in history as a harbinger of a golden age of infrastructure buildup in the country. Infrastructure could very well be one of the Filipino president’s defining legacies.

2017.08.10 14:39 gradenko_2000 Eyebrow-raising provisions in the draft for a Federal Constitution

I think we were all carried-away with harping on the Preamble, so I decided to read from the bottom of the document, going up, to see if there were any changes to the actual content and provisions of the Constitution that would be significant changes.

2016.07.28 07:00 meowkittycow Schedule suggestions/critique for three and a half weeks in Philippines in Dec./Jan.

Hi All,
I have an upcoming trip this Christmas/New Year season. Originally it was going to be just a trip to see lola in Mindanao but morphed to seeing relatives and friends all over Philippines.
Here is the current schedule in mind:
Details:
The main question I'd to ask is how to best sequence the destinations. What would you guys recommend? I'm accustomed to riding just about everything from planes, bancas, jeepneys (inside/outside), and trisikads, so mode of transport won't really be an issue. In addition, what should I cut or extend?
For new places to see, I'm kind of in a bind. I can't really decide between exploring a new island/province or digging deeper in places I visited before. For example, I've been to Manila lots of times but never really explored it due to leaving for other destinations. At the same time a couple of my friends recommended going to Siquijor for the chill atmosphere. If it helps with suggestions my interests are nature/outdoor activities (hiking, outdoor photography), food, and historical sites.
Apologies in advance for a slow reply. I'm on the opposite side of the globe.

2016.06.06 05:37 mentat On Moderation and Great Reddit Meetup Day!

Hi /philippines,
Two part post, scroll down for GRMD info :)
ON MODERATION:
As you may have noticed this subreddit, just like your Facebook feed, has gotten a massive influx of politically charged submissions in the last few months. Rather than slowing down after the elections as we were all hoping, it seems to have gotten even worse as president-elect Duterte tries to figure out how to handle being a world leader in the public spotlight. I get how tiring it can be to read about him ad nauseum, and unfortunately news submissions get quick and easy karma.
What the moderators are here to do, however, isn't to curate the content that gets submitted to the subreddit. We're here to remove posts that do not fit the subreddit and submissions that break the rules, not to cull content to fit your personal taste. The way that reddit is built is for communities to steer the subreddits through upvotes/downvotes, submissions of content, active participation like comments, or volunteerism.
That said, if you're sick of these political posts, I suggest you begin by upvoting content you want to see and downvoting the posts that do not contribute to the discussion. There's a lot of noise out there right now and it's a skill to filter out what's relevant. Next is to start submitting content you'd like to see; other users will probably follow suit.
Last... please use the report button and use it responsibly. We mods sleep, eat, and otherwise have lives. Moderating a community of ~60,000 users isn't easy, and we're bound to miss some stuff. We're volunteers, and human, so sometimes we can't respond right away, or we make mistakes. Feel free to message the mods if you feel like there was a mistake (we disagree sometimes) or a situation developing that needs to be addressed quickly.
GREAT REDDIT MEETUP DAY
In case you were unaware, Reddit has an annual meetup day that's organized by communities around the world. June 25 is this year's date, and it's coming up in a little under a month. /philippines has been a participant in GRMD for a few years now, and while there's usually an event that gets put together in Metro Manila, we also strongly encourage people in other cities (Iloilo, Bacolod, Baguio, Cebu, Davao) to put together their own. Remember... ANYONE can organize these things. In a few days we'll be putting up the official GRMD thread and if you're willing to organize a meetup in your area let us know, and we'll help you gain visibility.
As for Metro Manila, we still haven't locked down a venue. Last year we had a meetup that had ~100 people and it's possible that we're going to be seeing even more this year. It's difficult for us to find a venue to accommodate this many people without moneying down, and again...this is a volunteer operation. I'd like to ask for venue suggestions! If you happen to run a bar or a restaurant in the Greater Manila Sprawl that can accommodate 100+ people, now is your time to come forward, we can fill that space up ifyourbeerischeapenough ;)
Other things happening in June
